Sogod Bay is quietly emerging as a premier destination for divers in the Philippines, featuring an underwater paradise that is protected by a conservation initiative aimed at safeguarding 20 marine zones and the 350 coral species that flourish here, out of the 520 found worldwide.
The bay is an undiscovered underwater treasure, teeming with breathtaking marine life eager to be explored at its tranquil dive sites. With extraordinary reefs, divers can immerse themselves in colorful coral gardens, steep drop-offs, vast shelves, towering walls, and black sand abundant with macro life.
Boasting a wide variety of both soft and hard coral, Sogod Bay sustains marine life that ranges from small pygmy seahorses, nudibranchs, and pipefish to sea turtles, frogfish, octopuses, and even, during the appropriate season, whale sharks.
The Sogod Bay area is renowned for its exceptional dive locations including Napantao Marine Sanctuary, featuring striking coral walls and a plethora of fish; Tankaan Point, known for its lively reefs and opportunities for night diving; and Bunga Bend, home to macro life and vibrant coral, among others.
Seasonal appearances of whale sharks, particularly close to Pintuyan, occur from November through May.
The preservation effort is led by the dive resorts operating in the area, which have established Marine Protected Areas throughout Sogod Bay to maintain the biodiversity of the marine ecosystem.
