Rosales Airport is an airport serving the general area of Rosales in the province of Pangasinan.

Also known as Carmen Rosales Airport or Carmen Airstrip, it is primarily designated for rotary-wing aircraft and historically served as a secondary airfield for the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

Location and Basic Information

Rosales Airport is located in Barangay Carmen, approximately 11 km (7 miles) from Rosales town proper, with an elevation of approximately 28 meters (84 feet) above sea level. It takes about 12 minutes to reach the airport under normal traffic conditions.

The airport is classified as a community or feeder airport by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), a body of the DOTr responsible for the regulation and oversight of civil aviation in the country.

Runway and Infrastructure

The airport has a single gravel/dirt runway, with a reported length of 1,043 meters (3,422 feet), primarily used for light aircraft and helicopters. Besides basic airstrip operations, the airport has limited facilities, and there are no permanent commercial operations or instrument approach procedures listed.

History

Rosales Airport was constructed in October 1941 on the eve of the Japanese invasion of the Philippines. Initially a dirt landing strip, it served as a secondary airfield for U.S. Army Air Forces associated with Clark Air Base during World War II, as well as a refueling and staging area for B-18 Bolo bombers and P-40 Warhawks.

After liberation by U.S. forces in 1945, it continued to support liaison and reconnaissance missions.

Postwar, it remained in light use as a local airfield.
