For organizational purposes, the Philippines is divided into four levels of administrative jurisdictions:
- Regions: Groupings of provinces organized primarily for coordination of national government services.
- Provinces: A subdivision within a region, composed of component cities and municipalities.
- Cities and Municipalities: A subdivision within a province, composed of barangays (villages).
- Barangays: A subdivision within a city or municipality, forming the basic unit of local government.
