Puerto Princesa International Airport is the main gateway to Palawan, serving both domestic and international travelers with modern facilities and a strategic location near Puerto Princesa city.

Location and General Information

The airport is situated in Rizal Avenue, Barangay San Miguel, approximately 2-2.6 kilometers from downtown Puerto Princesa, which is roughly a 5-minute drive in light traffic.

The airport has a single runway measuring 2,601 meters (8,533 feet) in length and 45 meters wide, suitable for large aircraft, equipped with an instrument landing system, runway lights, and approach lighting for night and low-visibility operations. The runway resides at 71 feet (22 meters) above sea level.

History

Puerto Princesa International Airport has a rich history dating back to World War II, constructed by American POWs between 1942 and 1944. The airport was later utilized by US Air Forces and expanded post-liberation in 1945.

Commercial operations began in 1947 with Philippine Airlines flights.

Modern expansions include the inauguration of a new passenger terminal in May 2017, designed to handle up to two million passengers annually.

The terminal is a two-level, 13,000-square-meter facility providing seating for 1,500 passengers, an apron accommodating aircraft as large as Airbus A330, A350, and Boeing 787, and amenities such as:
