Vigan is a historic city that dates back to the 16th century, known for its iconic heritage village which is regarded as Asia’s best-preserved example of a carefully planned Spanish colonial town.
Because of its unique blend of European colonial architecture and influences from Chinese and Filipino designs, Vigan was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999 and recognized as one of the New7Wonders Cities in 2014.
I spent a day and a half roaming around this remarkable city, and in the end wished I had the chance to stay much longer.
In the following sections, I will be sharing the experiences I had during my brief visit, hoping to fairly reflect the essence and timeless charm of this beautiful city.
As mentioned in a related post, Vigan was one of several stops on the impromptu itinerary I drafted for my Ilocos adventure during this festive season.
I arrived in Vigan after spending a day and a half exploring the key sights in Laoag and some other towns in Ilocos Norte.
Upon arrival, the first stop I made was at Grandpa’s Inn, where I will be staying for the duration of my visit to this lovely city.
I chose to stay here due to its proximity to most of the city’s main attractions. It is located in the heart of the heritage village, where Calle Crisologo is just a brief stroll away.
Known for its classic Spanish colonial architecture and vintage decor, this cozy inn offers a budget-friendly way to experience the historic atmosphere of Vigan.
