Abulug is one of twenty-eight (28) municipalities (along with one city) that comprise the province of Cagayan in the Cagayan Valley. The town is politically subdivided into twenty (20) barangays, and is a part of the 2nd Congressional District of Cagayan.

Abulug is favored with many attractions including unspoiled back-country scenes, immensely fertile agricultural areas, the majestic bend of its namesake river, and its friendly people.

The magnificent sunset in all its splendor can be viewed on a trip down the Abulug river to the sea in the late afternoon.
