Fondly called Albur by the locals, the town is a favorite tourist destination because of its many natural wonders, foremost of which is the municipal marine sanctuary at Barangay Santa Filomena offering a beach and a protected mangrove area. Trekking thru rolling and steep terrain, verdant grasslands and traversing the Tagbuane River is another recreational undertaking enjoyed mostly by foreigners.

The town also boasts of having the longest and heaviest Python in captivity, that can be found in the Alburquerque Zoo, an educational center teaching conservation and animal welfare to all who visit.

Also largely drawing tourists are the native industries of Albur that include pottery making in East Poblacion, calamay making in Ponong, raffia loom weaving and the handicraft center in Basacdacu, which produces various kinds of baskets, placemats, fans, brooms and other local items. For a display of this native handicrafts, The Bohol Balai has built a huge hut with pebbled floor, showcasing an assortment of indigenous handicrafts, clothing, novelties, delicacies, and other souvenir items.

Alburquerque’s distance from Tagbilaran City, the provincial capital, is twelve (12) kilometers and travel time from the capital is about fifteen (15) minutes.
