Antequera is one of forty-seven (47) municipalities (along with one city) comprising the province of Bohol in the Central Visayas. The town is politically subdivided into twenty-one (21) barangays, and is a part of the 1st Congressional District of Bohol.
Antequera is known for its traditional native basketware. Most exquisite baskets found in the Visayas and even in Luzon, come from Bohol, particularly Antequera. A wide variety of indigenous materials found in the town’s forests are made into baskets, which are available wholesale or retail at the town’s Sunday morning market.
A short trek from the market lies the scenic Mag-Aso Falls, a picturesque twin waterfalls set against a backdrop of lush greens and deep ravines, ideal for a refreshing dip after an exhaustive day of touring. A similar attraction is Inambacan Falls, a beautiful cascading waterfall in a forest setting in Villa Aurora.
The town is further known for its karst caves that include Inambacan Cave near the falls in Villa Aurora, and the Buhong Tiawan and Hagakgak Caves, both of which can only be reached by a few kilometers trek from the poblacion through dense vegetation.
Antequera’s distance from Tagbilaran City, the provincial capital, is nineteen (19) kilometers and travel time from the capital is about thirty (30) minutes.
