Balilihan is one of forty-seven (47) municipalities (along with one city) comprising the province of Bohol in the Central Visayas. The town is politically subdivided into thirty-one (31) barangays, and is a part of the 1st Congressional District of Bohol.
Balilihan is a land of rugged mountains, rolling hills and verdant plains. The town is blessed with scenic natural attractions, some of which can only be reached by trekking over jagged terrain, a treat to the more adventurous. These include Camugao Falls in Barangay San Isidro, Kawasan Falls in Del Monte Weste, Niluksoan Falls in Barangay Sal-ing, and the pool at Barangay Magsija which is fed from a nearby spting.
Perhaps the most visited place in town is Mount Carmel Hill, where atop stands a centuries-old adobe and limestone watchtower, overlooking the town center. At the foot of the hill stands the beautiful Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, replete with decorative frescoes on its ceilings, a magnificent sight to behold.
Balilihan’s distance from Tagbilaran City, the provincial capital, is twenty-two (22) kilometers and travel time from the capital is about thirty (30) minutes.
