Batac is one of two cities (along with twenty-one (21) municipalities) comprising the province of Ilocos Norte in the Ilocos Region. The city is politically subdivided into forty-three (43) barangays, and is a part of the 2nd Congressional District of Ilocos Norte.

As its name denotes, Batac is a city where cooperation and unity is a way of life. Batac is considered one of the premier areas of the province and is rapidly growing as a center of trade and education.

It is also known as the home of eminent men and women who have contributed significantly to the development and welfare of the country and its people, the most prominent of whom is former President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos.
