Batangas City is one of three cities (along with thirty-one (31) municipalities) that comprise the province of Batangas in the Calabarzon Region. The city is politically subdivided into (105) barangays, and is a part of the 2nd Congressional District of Batangas.
The largest in the province, the city has been the provincial capital and administrative seat since 1754, and is the center of commerce and education in the province.
The city is a land of historical places, of fresh fruits and marine resources, and of great opportunities for social and economic advancement.
It is the site of one of the biggest oil refineries in the Philippines, and is also home to the first three power plants using natural gas.
Batangas City has an international seaport that serves as an alternate for the port of Manila.
Spanish missionaries first set foot in Batangas City in 1572. The area that is now Batangas City evolved from a settlement founded in 1581 around an area by the Calumpang River.
