Batuan is one of forty-seven (47) municipalities (along with one city) comprising the province of Bohol in the Central Visayas. The town is politically subdivided into fifteen (15) barangays, and is a part of the 1st Congressional District of Bohol.

Batuan, located within the province’s tourist belt area, is the gateway to the beautiful and exotic Chocolate Hills, only about three (3) kilometers away from the Chocolate Hills Complex at Buenos Aires, Carmen.

In addition, the Makapiko River in Barangay Rizal, including its environs, offer an alternative if not an additional treat to foreign and domestic tourists alike coming towards this area. Eco-tourism activities at Makapiko include river rafting, swimming and leisure treks. The bridge spanning the river has also been used by the more adventurous, rappelling some twenty meters down to the river.

Batuan’s distance from Tagbilaran City, the provincial capital, is fifty-one (51) kilometers and travel time from the capital is about one hour.
