Bilar is one of forty-seven (47) municipalities (along with one city) comprising the province of Bohol in the Central Visayas. The town is politically subdivided into nineteen (19) barangays, and is a part of the 3rd Congressional District of Bohol.
Bilar has a forested area that comprises almost half its total land area, a small portion of which becomes evident as one passes the Loboc-Bilar boundary, where thousands of mahogany trees line both sides of the road.
This entire area has been declared a national park, and today is a haven for nature lovers and a favorite birding destination in Bohol. The forest is part of the Rajah Sikatuna Protected Landscape which also covers forested areas of the towns of Valencia, Carmen, Sierra Bullones, Garcia Hernandez, Dimiao and Batuan.
In the park, countless species of flora and fauna, including birds, tarsiers, lemurs, monkeys and bats thrive in the area. Wildlife roams freely and undisturbed. Trails have been set up for visitors who want to explore its interiors. Also within the park is a butterfly sanctuary, that seeks to protect and strengthen the natural environment of butterflies through plant research and breeding.
Bilar’s distance from Tagbilaran City, the provincial capital, is forty-one (41) kilometers and travel time from the capital is about fifty (50) minutes.
