Cordillera Administrative Region : Mountain Province Tourism Bontoc Accommodation Bontoc
Overview Tourism Quick Facts Geography Images

Bontoc is one of ten (10) municipalities comprising Mountain Province in the Cordillera Administrative Region. The town is politically subdivided into (16) barangays, and is a part of the Lone Congressional District of Mountain Province.

Bontoc is the capital and seat of the provincial government, and the center of trade, commerce and education in the province.

Situated around the middle of the Cordilleras, Bontoc was once the heartland of the cultural minority called the Igorots. Elderly locals, some still garbed in traditional attire, and women with full-sleeve tatoos, still roam the streets of this once little town.

Bontoc is moderately developing, with new structures sprouting about the town proper. Should you decide to stay and look around, the town offers a few modest accommodation. A number of local crafts and souvenir shops line the streets, and if you find yourself running out of cash in the midst of your trip, there’s an ATM here, a rarity in the Cordilleras.

And being at the crossroads, Bontoc is also an ideal jump-off point to the different parts of the Cordilleras. From here, many jeeps ply regular routes to Sagada and Besao, both in Mountain Province, and to Banaue in the neighboring province of Ifugao.
