Buguey is one of twenty-eight (28) municipalities (along with one city) that comprise the province of Cagayan in the Cagayan Valley. The town is politically subdivided into thirty (30) barangays, and is a part of the 1st Congressional District of Cagayan.

Buguey is blessed with a wide expanse of black and fine sand beaches sprawling along its coastline.

One of the recreational activities visitors can do in Buguey is a trek up Bantay Pukis.
