Camalaniugan is one of twenty-eight (28) municipalities (along with one city) that comprise the province of Cagayan in the Cagayan Valley. The town is politically subdivided into twenty-eight (28) barangays, and is a part of the 1st Congressional District of Cagayan.
Camalaniugan is a historic town found shortly after the Spaniards first landed in the Cagayan Valley. The town is home to the oldest Christian bell in the Far East, found in the belfry at the town’s San Jacinto de Polonia Parish Church, the third Catholic church to be built in the province of Cagayan. The Bell of Antiquity, as it is fondly called, is said to have been forged in 1595.
It is also the birthplace of Don Vicente Nepomuceno, author of the history book “Historia Nac Cagayan” which is written in Ybanag.
Camalaniugan’s distance from Tuguegarao City, the provincial capital, is ninety-three (93) kilometers and travel time from the capital is about one and a half hours.
