Carcar is one of nine cities (along with forty-four (44) municipalities) that comprise the province of Cebu in the Central Visayas. The city is politically subdivided into (15) barangays, and is a part of the 1st Congressional District of Cebu.
Carcar is located about 40.3 km southwest of Cebu City and is known as the gateway to the South and Southwestern parts of the island province of Cebu. Carcar is one of seven cities (along with six municipalities) that comprise Metro Cebu.
Considered the Heritage City of Cebu, Carcar is home to various Spanish to American period structures. The Carcar plaza alone hosts several heritage structures, with the Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria dominating the area. Within the complex stand various structures. Walking towards Sta. Catalina street one will surely be astonished with the quaint houses and their distinctive architectural details.
A visit to Carcar would not be complete without sampling it’s mouth-watering delights. Surrounding the Rotunda and in the public market one will find the famous Carcar chicharon, lechon, ampao, bucarillo, gogorias and puso are just some delectable delicacies worth tasting.
Other sites to see in Carcar include Tuyom Beach, Mainit-Mabugnaw Guadalupe Cave, Calvary Hills, and the Miraculous Statue of the Virgin Mary at Perrelos.
