Overview Tourism Quick Facts Geography Images

Catigbian is one of forty-seven (47) municipalities (along with one city) comprising the province of Bohol in the Central Visayas. The town is politically subdivided into twenty-two (22) barangays, and is a part of the 1st Congressional District of Bohol.

Catigbian is known for its varied attractions, ranging from natural to man-made. The town has a number of yet unexplored caves located in Cantalina, Haguilanan, Candumayao, Bongbong and Hagbuaya. Ilaud Falls at Hagbuaya is ideal for a refreshing dip beneath swirling waters.

Catigbian hosts the biggest livestock auction center in the province. It is the only covered animal trading facility in the entire country which can accommodate over four hundred heads of livestock and much more for poultry.

The town is also noted for its native handicrafts made from indigenous materials such as bamboo, rattan and buri. Residents of the mountain barangays are into sawali and basket weaving.

On top of that, Catigbian operates a municipal nature park and resort in Haguilanan, a place where one can commune with nature.

The town has also some unique local practices that are worth a look into, such as its annual Katigbawan festival, a reflection of the deep cultural and traditional heritage of the Catigbianons. Held each year on the third week of June, the week-long event is celebrated with various activities like carabao-racing, hog-catching, an agrofair and a pageant.

Catigbian’s distance from Tagbilaran City, the provincial capital, is thirty-four (34) kilometers and travel time from the capital is about fifty (50) minutes.
