Dipolog is one of two cities (along with twenty-five (25) municipalities) that comprise the province of Zamboanga del Norte in the Zamboanga Peninsula. The city is politically subdivided into twenty-one (21) barangays, and is a part of the 2nd Congressional District of Zamboanga del Norte.
Dipolog City is fondly referred to as the “Bottled Sardines Capital of the Philippines”, in reference to its major product which abound in the rich fishing areas off its shores.
The city is the capital and economic hub of the province, and serves as the gateway to Western Mindanao, a convenient jump off point to premier eco-tourism destinations in the region.
Natural attractions that can be found within the city include Linabo Peak, Cogon Eco-Park, Sungkilaw Falls and the OISCA Forest Park.

It is also the site for various celebrations and festivals in the city, including the annual Sinulog sa Dipolog that is held every 3rd Saturday of January featuring pageantry and street dancing in honor of the Sto. Niño (Holy Child).
