Gingoog is one of three cities (along with twenty-three (23) municipalities) comprising the province of Misamis Oriental in Northern Mindanao. The city is politically subdivided into (79) barangays, and is a part of the 1st Congressional District of Misamis Oriental.
Gingoog has diverse natural scenic attractions, endowed with nature’s bounty of forests, mountains, waterfalls, lakes and beaches. It has about seventy (70) hectares of mangrove cover that serves as sanctuary for migratory birds, echinoderms, coelenterates, mollusks and crustaceans.
Available beaches include the Badiangon Beach and Cold Spring, Mawa Beach, La Vista Mar, Alte Beach, and Punong White Beach. Facilities offered are cottages, canteens, rest rooms and dressing rooms. Its coral reefs, which includes the precious pink corals, are generally in good condition. One would take pleasure seeing the population of whales and dolphins that dance until the sun sets.
Foremost of the city’s numerous waterfalls are the Tiklas, Kilubag, and Bangbang Falls which are easily accessible by motorcycles or other vehicles. The rest needs a thirty minute to one hour hike of rugged terrain, best for ambitious and thrill seeker individuals.
Danao Lake is approximately seven (7) kilometers from Barangay Banta-awan which itself is 18 kilometers southwest from the city proper. It is approximately 1,830 meters above sea level and extends to a 5 hectares oval shaped body of water which is clear and calm surrounded by a virgin forest.
The city is also blessed with the verdant mountains of Mounts Lunot and Balatukan, both very rich in natural resources, flora and fauna included. These mountains provide a haven for mountaineering enthusiasts.
