Gonzaga is one of twenty-eight (28) municipalities (along with one city) that comprise the province of Cagayan in the Cagayan Valley. The town is politically subdivided into twenty-five (25) barangays, and is a part of the 1st Congressional District of Cagayan.

Gonzaga is an ideal place for adventure seekers. The municipality has numerous scenic and tourist destinations that include the various caves in Cabanbanan Norte and Pateng; the cool, shady, running brooks at Mission and Pateng that are inviting grounds for swimming and picnicking; the hot springs in Baua, Manaring and San Jose; the beautiful crater of Mount Cagua; and the Sirok Ti Rangtay River Resort, among others.

In addition, Gonzaga is blesed with a wide expanse of black and fine sand beaches sprawling along its coastline that include, among others, Tallag Rocks and Beach, Amunitan and Baua Beaches, Matara Corrals, and Rumag-ay Beach located at the World War II Japanese Landing Site at Batangan.

Another site that may be of interest to those on pilgrimate tours is the Sacred Heart Grotto at the Cagayan State University.
