Pasig is one of sixteen cities that comprise the National Capital Region.
Pasig was the capital of Rizal province before it was made a component city of Metro Manila. The provincial capitol is still located in the city along Shaw Boulevard in Barangay Kapitolyo.
The city is home to the eastern part of Ortigas Center, which it shares with Mandaluyong and Quezon City. The Ortigas Center is the financial and commercial hub of the city, and the country’s second most important business district after the Makati CBD. Northwest of Ortigas Center is the headquarters of Meralco (Manila Electric Company), the largest power distribution company in the Philippines.
Pasig is also home to several prime shopping and entertainment destinations, the most prominent of which are located at Frontera Verde, an 18-hectare private development project in Barangay Ugong. The complex comprises Tiendesitas, SM Supercenter, Fun Ranch, Ark Avilon Zoo and Silver City. This area also hosts a variety of events, from cultural festivals to car races.
Other places of interest in the city include El Pueblo, an aggregate of restaurant buildings in a colonially-themed area, and Metrowalk, an ideal place with a variety of options for an enlivened dining and nightlife experience.
