Overview Tourism Quick Facts Geography Images

Tubigon is one of forty-seven (47) municipalities (along with one city) comprising the province of Bohol in the Central Visayas. The town is politically subdivided into thirty-four (34) barangays, and is a part of the 1st Congressional District of Bohol.

One notable heritage attraction in Tubigon is the town’s old stone church, a massive structure perched on a hill overlooking the plaza, the town market and the coast in the distance. The church has a grand concrete approach and an old stone archway in front.

Tubigon is also noted as the loom weaving center of Bohol. In the small barrio of Pinayagan Norte, loomweaving has been a household industry, taken on mostly by womenfolk for many generations. The weavers utilize raffia fibers extracted from buri leaves found in Tubigon and neighboring towns, to produce items such as raffia rolls, place mats, beach mats, and table runners in different designs and colors.

In addition, Tubigon has one tourism potential that has yet to be developed: an island adventure package to the six major island barangays with white sandy beaches. These include the islands of Pangapasan (famed for the abundance of lambay crabs), Batasan, Ubay, Bilangbilangan, and Mocaboc (all known for their lawag and licom methods of deep sea fishing), and Bagongbanwa.

Possible treking and camping sites include Ilijan Hill in Ilijan Norte, and Taganas Spring in Bunacan. The islets of Inanoran and Haya-an now offer basic accommodation to the more adventurous who may want to spend a few days on a small isolated island.

Tubigon is the second most important seaport in Bohol, after Tagbilaran City. While it may not offer as much in terms of tourism, the town serves as a major gateway linking Bohol with Cebu, being the nearest seaport in the province to the neighboring island. Average outgoing and incoming traffic in the Port of Tubigon is about 4,000 passengers daily.

Tubigon’s distance from Tagbilaran City, the provincial capital, is fifty-four (54) kilometers and travel time from the capital is about one hour and ten (10) minutes.
