Sultan Kudarat is one of four provinces comprising the Soccsksargen Region ( Region XII ).

The province is subdivided into eleven (11) municipalities and one city, with a total of 249 barangays represented as two congressional districts. The seat of the provincial government is at the capital town of Isulan.

Named after Sultan Mohammed Dipatuan Kudarat, the most famous sultan of Maguindanao, the province is known for its Kalimudan Festival held every November 21 in Isulan. It is an annual gathering of the different tribal groups in the province to celebrate a bountiful harvest. Activities include a dancing parade, horsefight, trade fair, and sports competition. The festival highlights the foundation anniversary of Sultan Kudarat.
