Benguet is one of six provinces comprising the Cordillera Administrative Region ( CAR ).
The province is subdivided into thirteen (13) municipalities and one city, with a total of 269 barangays represented as a lone congressional district. The seat of the provincial government is at the capital town of La Trinidad.
Nature has endowed Benguet with immense riches. Vast tracts of timberland, mineral deposits and fertile soil abound in Benguet. Its unique sub-tropical climate alone is a distinctive asset. The pine-clad mountains and cool weather is a veritable paradise for those weary of the tropical heat.
Being at the southern end of the Cordilleras, Benguet serves as the gateway to the highland provinces of the region. Like the rest of the Cordillera provinces, Benguet is a major tourist destination; its picturesque landscape, unique culture and warm people all contribute to it being a favorite among travelers.
At 5,000 feet above sea level, the province straddles on top of the Cordillera mountain ranges. Mount Pulag, the second highest mountain in the Philippines, and Halsema Highway, the highest and most scenic mountain highway system in the country, are both located in Benguet.
Amidst these mountainous terrain sits a wide plateau wherein the beautiful city of Baguio, dubbed the “Summer Capital of the Philippines”, is situated. Baguio City is the seat of the Cordillera regional government, and is the leading educational center for the Northern Philippines.
Just across this plateau lies La Trinidad Valley, fondly referred to as the “Salad Bowl of the Philippines”, the major source of cold-weather fruits and vegetables in the country.
