Previously known as Region IV-B, Mimaropa consists of five island provinces: Marinduque, Mindoro (Occidental and Oriental), Palawan, and Romblon, each offering their own distinct and diverse attractions.

Mimaropa is a tropical haven for adventurers. The region features a diverse array of attractions, ranging from stunning natural marvels like the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River in Palawan, to lush green forests and expansive coastlines adorned with rocky limestone coves and pristine white sandy beaches. It also hosts vibrant cultural celebrations such as the Moriones Festival in Marinduque.

It shares no land borders with other regions and showcases an incredible mix of terrestrial and marine biodiversity, particularly evident on the islands of Mindoro and Palawan, which are home to a significant number of endemic species, along with world-renowned coral reefs found in Apo Island and Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park.

Presented below are the essential travel highlights by province:

Marinduque:

  • Unspoiled beaches such as Poctoy and those found on Maniwaya and Tres Reyes Islands; natural wonders including the Malbog Sulfur Hotspring, Bathala Caves, and Mount Malindig; along with cultural and historical landmarks like the Boac Cathedral and the annual Moriones Festival, which celebrates the province’s rich cultural heritage. Additionally, Marinduque is recognized as the “Butterfly Capital of the Philippines” due to its numerous butterfly farms.

Mindoro (Oriental and Occidental):

  • A variety of natural attractions including beaches (White Beach, Aninuan Beach), waterfalls (Tamaraw Falls), and the Apo Reef Natural Park, which is the second-largest barrier reef globally and a premier diving destination. The island also offers mountainous terrain such as the challenging Mount Halcon, opportunities for eco-tourism like visiting mangrove conservation areas, and insights into indigenous culture at places like the Iraya-Mangyan Cultural Village.

Palawan:

  • Stunning natural beauty, featuring limestone cliffs and crystal-clear turquoise waters, along with a plethora of activities like island-hopping, diving, and exploring unique attractions like the Puerto Princesa Underground River. Palawan is also celebrated for its lush rainforests, rich marine biodiversity, and countless white-sand beaches.

Romblon:

  • Beautiful beaches like Bonbon Beach, abundant marine life perfect for diving and snorkeling at locations such as Looc Marine Sanctuary, and significant cultural and historical sites including the Romblon Cathedral and Fuerza de San Andres. Known as the “Marble Capital of the Philippines,” Romblon also showcases distinctive marble crafts.

Additionally, the region provides a platform for a diverse array of activities and experiences, ranging from the exploration of ancient caves and vibrant jungles to the enjoyment of pristine white-sand beaches, observing a multitude of wildlife, kayaking through jungle rivers and lagoons, as well as engaging in world-class diving, snorkeling, surfing, hiking, and boating.

Furthermore, Mimaropa serves as a hub for cultural immersion, allowing visitors to experience local festivals and interact with communities that highlight the region’s rich cultural heritage.

In summary, Mimaropa merges natural beauty, cultural depth, and adventurous activities, establishing itself as a premier destination for travelers in search of both relaxation and enriching experiences, ensuring an unforgettable travel experience.
