Trails in Casecnan Protected Landscape
Difficulty: Moderate Elevation Gain: 3,967 m
Distance: 93.7 km Estimated Time: 24 hr

The trail through the Casecnan Protected Landscape is a challenging trek through dense rainforest, rugged terrain, and indigenous Ilongot (Bugkalot) territories.

The route usually starts near General Luna Integrated High School along Carranglan Road, passing by the mighty Casecnan River, the impressive Casecnan Dam/Hydroelectric Project, and a glimpse of the surrounding Sierra Madre throughout the climb.

This trail demands serious preparation for ecological immersion and cultural respect.

Difficulty: Hard Elevation Gain: 2,183 m
Distance: 50.2 km Estimated Time: 16.5-18.5 hr

The traverse climbs through a biodiversity-rich area within the Caraballo Mountain Range, where the forest canopy is still relatively dense. The physical experience is demanding, requiring sustained effort to navigate paths that often follow steep ravines and river edges.

The trail passes through ecologically vulnerable areas, serving as habitat for numerous endemic Philippine amphibians and reptiles, including various species of skinks and geckos.

The most challenging footing is found in areas of bamboo thicket and tall grass, where the ground can be obscured by vegetation.
