Saud Beach

Saud Beach: The Boracay of the North

Saud Beach is a pristine paradise framed by coconut palms and rolling hills. Its clear turquoise waters and gentle waves create a safe environment for families, while its unspoiled charm attracts travelers seeking serenity away from crowded resorts.

Situated in Pagudpud at the northern tip of Ilocos Norte, this “Boracay of the North” spans a four-kilometer stretch of powdery white sand, offering a tranquil, less commercialized vibe ideal for peace-seekers, highlighting Ilocos Norte’s coastal charm.

For years, this unblemished northern tip of Luzon remained a well-kept secret among locals. That changed in 2021 when the prestigious Travel & Leisure publication recognized Saud Beach as among the 25 Most Beautiful Beaches in the world.

Unlike its more famous counterpart, Boracay, Saud Beach is defined by its tranquility. There are no thumping basslines from beachfront clubs or sprawling commercial malls.

Instead, guests can enjoy its distinctive curve, a two-kilometer arc of fine, powdery white sand framed by a dense grove of leaning coconut palms. The waves here are exceptionally gentle, making it a safe haven for swimming and wading, even for children.

As evening approaches, the sky transforms into a canvas of deep oranges and purples, a sight so cinematic it has made the beach a favorite location for international filmmakers and photographers.

Beachfront dining often features Ilocano staples such as bagnet (crispy pork belly) and the famous orange-hued Batac empanada.

Beyond the Shoreline

While the beach is undoubtedly the main attraction, its location serves as a gateway to the rugged beauty of the Ilocos coastline. Nearby points of interest include:

  • Bangui Windmills: On a clear day, one can see the giant white turbines of Southeast Asia’s first wind farm spinning against the horizon.
  • Kapurpurawan Rock Formation: This natural marvel is renowned for its striking, creamy-white rock formations that contrast beautifully with the deep blue sea.
  • Patapat Viaduct: A short tricycle ride takes you to the Patapat Viaduct, a winding bridge that hugs the cliffs of the Northern Cordillera, providing spectacular views of Pasaleng Bay.
Final Thoughts

Saud Beach provides a calm, idyllic seaside escape, a place that balances accessibility with unspoiled charm. While being dubbed as “Boracay of the North” may be catchy, its true appeal lies in its being less commercialized.

Saud Beach is ideal for families, couples, and solo adventurers who appreciate peace, scenic strolls, and gentle waters, presenting a contrast of experiences. It is not about adrenaline, but about serenity.
