Marcela Agoncillo: The Seamstress Behind the First Filipino Flag

This National Historic Landmark is the birthplace of Marcela Agoncillo, celebrated as the seamstress behind the first Filipino flag.

Located on a street aptly named in her honor, this ancestral home turned museum prominently displays the different flags used during the Philippine revolution against Spanish colonization.

Doña Marcela Mariño de Agoncillo (June 24, 1859 – May 30, 1946) served as the principal seamstress for the first official flag of the Philippines, earning her the esteemed title of “Mother of the Philippine Flag”.

Situated in the charming heritage town of Taal, this well-preserved museum provides visitors with an opportunity to delve into a significant chapter of Philippine history, featuring remarkable exhibits and narratives about the nation’s struggle for independence and its flag.

The house itself is a stunning piece of memorabilia, and the museum stands as one of the finest ways to engrain a piece of Philippine history in our minds. Both children and adults will gain a deeper appreciation for our historical legacy when they explore such sites and artifacts.

There is no entrance fee required, as this is a government-operated museum.
