Apo Island is recognized as one of the most effective community-driven marine sanctuaries in the Philippines, boasting over 650 recorded fish species and an estimated 400 coral species across 106 hectares of untouched coral reef.

Situated roughly 7 km from the southeastern edge of Negros Island, this small volcanic island spans about 74 hectares and can be accessed via a 30-minute motorized boat ride from the village of Malatapay in Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental.

Apo Island is known as one of the top diving and snorkeling spots in the country, thanks to its incredible marine diversity, which includes vibrant coral gardens and regular sightings of sea turtles, large schools of various fish species, and unique marine creatures.

On the island, you can also hike to the lighthouse or view deck for breathtaking vistas, relax on Marine Sanctuary Beach or Rock West Beach, and experience genuine island life with friendly locals.

The sanctuaries are supported and maintained through visitor fees, with fishing limited to locals to promote sustainability.

The ideal time to visit is during the dry season, from November to May, when the waters are clearest and boat conditions are safest. From February to April, visibility is at its peak—making it perfect for spotting turtles and colorful coral gardens.
