Aga Khan Museum and Natural Science Museum

The Aga Khan Museum was established to cultivate a richer comprehension and appreciation of the significant role that Muslim civilization has played in shaping Mindanao’s heritage.

Situated within the main campus of Mindanao State University, the museum showcases a collection of indigenous cultural artifacts, along with architectural replicas and historical exhibits that illustrate the influence of Muslim civilization among contemporary Muslim communities in Mindanao.

Among the impressive collection are Moro and Lumad artifacts, that include traditional musical instruments like the kulintang and kobing, which provide visitors with an auditory experience of local traditions.

The architectural replicas feature scale models of Maranao royal residences referred to as torogan, as well as miniature pagoda-style mosques, highlighting the region’s artistic and spiritual heritage.

Historical exhibits present weapons and armaments like the kris, kampilan, and lantaka weapons utilized by Moro freedom fighters during the Spanish and American colonial eras, shedding light on the region’s resistance movements and historical legacy.

For any traveler keen on exploring the rich cultural and historical fabric of Mindanao, and intrigued by heritage, identity, and the narratives of the southern Philippines, the Aga Khan Museum is an exceptional addition to their itinerary.
