The Port of Sual is a strategic maritime gateway located in the municipality of Sual, Pangasinan.
It is renowned for its deep-water harbor, which historically allowed for the docking of large international galleons and currently supports major industrial and commercial activities.
The port area primarily consists of three distinct components:
- Sual Coal-Fired Power Plant Port:
- Established in 2012 close to the Sual Power Station, the Philippines’ largest coal-powered plant. This is one of the country’s most critical coal discharge ports, capable of handling bulk carriers with a draft of up to 13.3 meters.
- PFDA Sual Fish Port:
- Managed by the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA), this facility serves the fishery sector in northwestern Luzon, providing essential docking and storage for local fishing vessels.
- Historical International Port:
- Sual was officially opened to foreign commerce on September 29, 1855, by Royal Order, making it one of the first ports outside Manila to engage in international trade.
- Location: Situated in a naturally sheltered cove, providing safe anchorage from the open sea.
- Vessel Types: Handles a variety of ships including bulk carriers, tankers, fishing vessels, and general cargo.
- Future Development: There are ongoing efforts to further develop the area into a full-scale international container seaport to boost regional economy.
