Busuanga is one of two municipalities that make up Busuanga Island, the other being the bustling town of Coron.

While it is smaller and quieter, Busuanga stands apart from its tourist-heavy neighbor Coron, offering a more secluded and private adventure away from the crowds.

The town is home to the island’s airport, serving as the gateway to the rest of the Calamian Island group, which include Busuanga, Coron, Culion, and Linapacan Islands, along with several smaller islets.

Providing access to both local attractions and its nearby islands, Busuanga is the ideal destination for travelers seeking pristine nature and off-the-beaten-path experiences, while the rest of the Calamian Islands is within easy reach.

Key attractions in Busuanga include:

  • Calauit Safari Park

This park presents a unique piece of Africa in the Philippines, hosting a diverse range of African and endemic Palawan flora and fauna, allowing visitors to experience a safari-style adventure. Giraffes, zebras, and impalas wander freely alongside native species such as the Calamian deer and Palawan bearded pig. Visitors are treated to a guided tour of the park and gain insights into wildlife conservation efforts. Situated on Calauit Island, the park is just a short boat ride off the northwestern coast of Busuanga.

  • Black Island (Malajon Island)

Often regarded as one of Busuanga’s best-kept secrets, this island features a stunning contrast of white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and dramatic black-rock cliffs. Explore the enigmatic caves, swim in the secluded coves, and soak in the tranquility of this lesser-visited paradise.

  • Ocam Ocam Beach

For an authentic local beach experience, head to Ocam Ocam. This is the perfect spot to unwind, embrace the simple island lifestyle, and witness stunning sunsets. Overnight stays in beach cottages are available for those seeking a deeper connection to the island away from the tourist crowds.

Activities for adventurous travelers include:

  • Sea kayaking

The coastline of Busuanga is ideal for kayaking, with numerous resorts providing tours to uncover the island’s stunning natural scenery.

  • Explore hidden lagoons

Navigate through mangrove forests and along rugged coastlines to find secluded coves and lagoons.

  • Wreck diving

While tours often depart from Coron town, many of Busuanga’s accommodations are closer to the renowned WWII shipwrecks. Choosing to lodge in Busuanga can offer quicker access to some of the more distant dive sites in Coron Bay. A stay at a dive resort can provide a more focused and dedicated wreck diving experience.

With regards to accommodation, Busuanga offers a wide range of resorts catering to every budget, many of which are situated in more peaceful, remote locations compared to Coron town. From the luxurious Busuanga Bay Lodge featuring an infinity pool, to the more secluded and charming Ocam Ocam Azur Inn, there is a diverse selection of places to stay.

Finding a place to eat is never an issue, as local eateries provide Filipino favorites at reasonable prices. Street food vendors are plentiful, offering quick bites for less than $1 USD.

Opting to stay in Busuanga town instead of Coron allows you to fully embrace the island’s rugged natural beauty, away from the main tourist hub. From here, you can still easily join island-hopping tours, yet return to a more serene and secluded base after a day of adventure.

The town is conveniently served by Francisco B. Reyes Airport, just a short ride from local transport hubs. Tricycles, jeepneys, and boat rentals are common for local and island travel. With budget-friendly meals, accommodations, and activities, Busuanga stands out as an excellent destination for budget-conscious travelers.

In summary, Busuanga presents a quieter, nature-focused alternative to Coron, ideal for those seeking a laid-back and more intimate island experience, while also serving as a strategic base for exploring the rest of the northern Palawan archipelago.
