Butig is one of thirty-nine (39) municipalities (along with one city) that comprise the province of Lanao del Sur in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region ( BARMM ). The town is politically subdivided into (16) barangays, and is a part of the 2nd Congressional District of Lanao del Sur.
