Camalig is one of fifteen (15) municipalities (along with three cities) that comprise the province of Albay in the Bicol Region. The town is politically subdivided into (50) barangays, and is a part of the 2nd Congressional District of Albay.

Locals widely speak Camalignon, a Bicol sub-dialect, and can also ably speak Bicol, Tagalog and English.
