Overview Tourism Quick Facts Geography Images

Languyan is one of eleven (11) municipalities comprising the province of Tawi-Tawi in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region ( BARMM ). The town is politically subdivided into twenty (20) barangays, and is a part of the Lone Congressional District of Tawi-Tawi.

Languyan is one of the historic towns in the main island of Tawi-Tawi, located along the trade route said to have been taken by merchants from Malaysia and other places of Asia.

It is the only municipality in the province with a sizable amount of forest cover, around 44% of its total land area.

In one of its barangays, Parang Pantay, an old Spanish cannon was found which is now on display as a tourist attraction.

Presently, Languyan is known for its pearl farms.

Farming is the major livelihood of its people. Aside from pearls, the town also produces seaweeds, copra, coffee, cassava, and fruit crops. Coffee plantations are still in their infancy but are expected to be a major industry.
