Aurora is one of seven provinces that comprise Central Luzon ( Region III ).

The province is subdivided into eight (8) municipalities, with a total of 151 barangays represented as a lone congressional district. The seat of the provincial government is at the capital town of Baler.

‘Contra costa’, or the opposite coast, as early Spanish missionaries called it, Aurora is one of the few provinces in the country that is oriented towards the bleak and wild eastern shores of the island of Luzon facing the vast Pacific Ocean.

The province occupies a narrow strip that follows the long and rocky eastern coastline of the region, isolated from the rest of the island by the lush forests of the Sierra Madre Range. This splendid land is so unbelievably rich and untouched that it is fondly referred to as the “Sanctuary of Nature’s Splendor”.

The Sierra Madre covers a large part of Aurora. In fact, next to the province’s coastline, it is the place where flora and fauna are most concentrated. Waterfalls, rivers, crystal clear streams of varying sizes are located within, if not adjacent to, the area of the Sierra Madre.

Special interest trips such as mountain climbing, safari, bird watching, ecological studies, or even as simple as picnics could be rolled into one by taking the trails recommended by local nature trekkers in the area.

When the northeast monsoon winds blow and the usual tranquil white beaches are transformed into deathtraps by angry waves, it is time to come to Aurora to ride the waves on a surfboard.
