Bulacan is one of seven provinces that comprise Central Luzon ( Region III ).

The province is subdivided into twenty-one (21) municipalities and three cities, with a total of 569 barangays represented as five congressional districts. The seat of the provincial government is at the capital city of Malolos.

Bulacan is the land of the makatà (Tagalog bard), whose prosperous towns and rich agricultural lands have nurtured a most vibrant and colorful people.

The province is noted as the land of heroes. Bulacan is the home province of some of the nation’s celebrated heroes: Francisco Baltazar (Balagtas), “The Prince of Filipino Poets”; Marcelo H. Del Pilar, “The Great Propagandist”; and Gregorio del Pilar, “The Hero of Tirad Pass”.

Located in San Miguel, Biak-na-Bato served as the base of the freedom fighters during the Philippine-Spanish war. The first phase of the Philippine-Spanish Revolution ended with the signing of the Pact of Biak-na-Bato in San Miguel in 1897 between the Filipinos and the Spaniards, after which the Philippine Republic President, General Emilio Aguinaldo, was exiled to Hong Kong.

The famous Barasoain Church in the historic town of Malolos was the site of the Constitutional Convention of the First Philippine Republic. It has a Historical Landmarks History Museum, which is devoted to preserving the fruits of the Philippine-Spanish Revolution as well as freedom and the Filipinos’ heritage of democracy. Its Ecclesiastical Museum houses a collection of religious artifacts from all over Bulacan.

Found in Malolos, Casa Real served as the National Museum and the National Printing Press during the First Philippine Republic.

From May 17 to 19 in Obando, women dance their way to finding a lover or bearing a child during the Obando Fertility Dance Festival. The three-day festival coincides with the feast days of San Pascual Baylon, Sta. Clara de Asis, and Virgen de Salambao.

Celebrated yearly on the last Sunday of January in Malolos, the Sto. Niño Festival is the biggest expression of devotion to the Holy Child Jesus in the Luzon island.

Bulacan is reputed for beautiful women, progressive cooperatives, small and medium scale industries, and known for excellent craftsmanship as in its jewelery, leather crafts and garments.

The province has emerged into a reputable resort haven of Luzon. Just a few minutes north of Manila by car, Bulacan resorts provide an accessible and welcome respite from the pressures of city life.

Feel the heart and soul of the Philippines in Bulacan. Its history and tradition, its land, its culture, and its people, live and breathe Filipino. Truly a melting pot of the past and the present, the old and the new, the countryside and the urbane ~ that is Bulacan.
