Masbate is one of six provinces that comprise the Bicol Region ( Region V ).

The island province is subdivided into twenty (20) municipalities and one city, with a total of 550 barangays represented as three congressional districts. The seat of the provincial government is at the capital city of Masbate.

Masbate is an archipelago composed of a wedge-shaped mainland (Masbate), two major islands (Ticao and Burias) and fourteen (14) small islands. It is separated from Luzon by the Burias and Ticao Passes in the north, from Samar by the Samar Sea in the east, from Cebu and Panay by the Visayan Sea in the south and from Romblon by the Sibuyan Sea in the west.
