Established in the 16th century, Vigan is the best-preserved example of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia.

Its architecture reflects a charming blend of cultural influences from various parts of the Philippines, as well as from China and Europe, resulting in a unique culture and townscape that is unparalleled anywhere in East and South-East Asia.

This UNESCO World Heritage site encompasses the historic layout of the entire town, featuring a total of 233 historic buildings arranged along a grid of 25 streets.

The focal point is Calle Crisologo, where one can still find centuries-old structures that highlight Vigan’s vibrant culture and history. It remains the only Spanish-era passageway in the country that has maintained its original form.

Vigan is distinctive for having retained much of its Hispanic colonial character, especially its grid street pattern and historic urban layout, along with how the different architectural influences are blended to create a homogenous townscape.

With its cobblestone streets adorned with heritage residences featuring aged tiled roofs, expansive hardwood floors, elegant balustrades and azoteas, visitors are sure to be enchanted by Vigan.
