The Sardine Run at Panagsama Beach is one of the most surreal underwater spectacles in the Philippines, occurring year-round just a few meters from the shore.
Unlike seasonal sardine migrations found in other locations, the sardines in Moalboal create a constant spectacle, remaining in place throughout the entire year.
Visitors can easily snorkel just a few meters from the beach, eliminating the need for a boat ride, and find themselves surrounded by thousands of sardines swirling in mesmerizing bait balls.
Sardines swim at easily reachable depths (1–10 meters), making it ideal for both beginners and experienced snorkelers.
Moreover, sea turtles can occasionally be seen gliding through these waters, particularly near the grassy reef drop-off.
The optimal time to visit is early in the morning, when sardines swim closer to the shore just after sunrise, and the water is calmer with fewer crowds.
